Datura - Trumpets of the Gods
Daturas, also known as Jimson Weed, are a class of psychoactive members of the Nightshade (Solanaceae) family. While other Nightshades are more familiar (including tomatoes, eggplant, tobacco, potatoes, but also mandrake, nightshade and henbane), Daturas have fallen out of public conciousness, despite being a plant widely used by indigenous American peoples.
Daturas (and their related cousins, Brugmansia, also known as tree daturas) are high in scopalamine, atropine and hyoscine, all of which are commonly recognised as poisonous today.
